  • which cue fits to me?

hello, i realy need your guys help.

i want to buy a cue and im not sure of which details it should have.

    im about 175cm tall/small
my hands getting somehow very wet during a few shots, so i have problems with some materials i dont know. some works realy fine for me.

i dont know anyone in real life knows much about cues and there materials so i hope you guys can help me.

    some more questions:
you think its easier to play with 18,19,20 oz? (realy much difference there)?
if it is, which one exactly?

i know this is kinda subjective but just tell me ur opinios and minds about it.

and for the end: if u have arround 400€ to buy a cue, which one would you recommand me?

    thanks a lot

    mario

    Welcome!

Make sure your hands are always dry before you play. I dont know what you mean by materials, please elaborate?

The weights are different! 20 is really heavy as you can probably guess, whereas 18oz is now the standard. But it's all about feel and how you play with it, not about getting it for the number. So have a go with a few different weighted cues if you can, then you will find the right one.

400 euro will get you a superb cue, and theres loads to choose from:

Mike Wooldridge, Trevor White, John Parris, Tony Glover, etc.

    others, maybe cheaper alternatives:

    Craftsmen Cues, Mastercue, Peradon, etc.

hello, and thanks for the welcome and the quick answer

the main problem for me is, that i cant try any other cues then my one.
and if another player i my local snooker club let me play with his a few shots, he dont know the details of his cue (ash/mapple, weight etc) so its hard to figur out which one fits to me.

is there any difference between ash and mapple shafts in play?

im using a towel after every 2-3 short.. that cant be normal isnt it?

there muste be some wood types (i hope thats the right description) sliding better and easier on the hand then others. maybe it depends on the weight too?

well i know alot of questions over there.. but still hope you guys can help me.

lust but not least i appologize for my english you might struggle with

btw.: cant test any handmade cues in austria here, so i realy got to be informated here before buyin a cue.

im currently play with a bce heirtage (the one ronnie signated) and since i start knocking in some +50 breaks i think its time for a new cue might take my game into a new level.

      best regards

Ah right, BCE!! Thats what you dont want, in my opinion. Tacky, cheap and mass produced with no love or passion! What you need mate is a real handmade cue.

No real difference between ash and maple in playing terms, other than maple has no arrows/chevrons on the grain of the cue. Whereas Ash is covered in chevrons. Also, Ash is more preferred due to Maple can warp over time.

Check out Mike's site, he is a regular member here.

Problem is the cue info section seems to have dissapeared from Mikes site. EDIT: Thanks Matty I found it now

The reason your cue doesn't slide very well over your hand is probably because it is varnished. Handmade cues should either be oiled or waxed.

The difference between ash and maple is subjective and if you can't actually try both out then it might be best to stick with what you are used to unless you prefer one or the other for a particular aesthetic reasons.

The weight again is a subjective thing, the more important factor will be the balance of the cue.

Length wise the standard measure is to get a cue up that reaches to your armpit, however bear in mind longer is preferable if you are not sure as you can always move your grip up the cue.

Thanks to Matty for finding the cue info section again

All the info you need basically can be found on Mike Wooldridge's site here.

There are many makes out within your budget depending what you are looking for, and whether you will need a case etc with it. Try reading through the cues forum for info on all the different suppliers.

For a top quality handmade cue for instance there is Robin Cook
          http://www.robincues.co.uk/Prices.html

And Mike Wooldridge of course previously linked

Slightly cheaper we have craftsman cues
          http://www.craftsmancues.com/acatalo...ard_range.html

          Green Baize
          http://www.greenbaize.com

          And Welsh Pool Trading
          http://www.welshpooltrading.co.uk/

And theres ADR147 (user on here) who may have something if you contact him.

In the mean time take a slightly damp towel and wipe your cue and then follow that by buffing with a dry towel and it should help the cue slide much better for more than 3 shots!

                          Hi,
there is a German section here on the forum.
If you'd like we can continue there in German language or we can do it here if the other members do not mind...
I am confused... Oh wait... Maybe I'm not...

It is good manners to ask first before kicking most people out of the discussion....

Was für Specs brauchst Du denn?
Evtl. hätte ich auch was für Dich.
Wo in Österreich bist Du denn?
I am confused... Oh wait... Maybe I'm not...
