I know nothing about joints but my Mastercraft cue has the thread running all the way up the brass bit. My other cue has the thread just at the base. Don't really know what the difference, if any, is. There's bound to be loads of posts on the forum about joints but its time consuming reading through them and 9 times out of 10 you never get a conclusion. I like to rely on the opinion of some of the experts who post on this forum. Anybody help here?

My mate had one made a couple of months back, really nice cue except the joint doesn't fit perectly, you can feel the edges clearly when it's screwed together. And the brass isn't shiny. It doesn't affect the way it plays, just isn't as good a joint as some of the other quality cues out there. Haven't seen many of their cues though, had a 1 piece and that was spot on
BTW, I prefer air-twist joint compare to the airlocked joint. It is a better joint. At least that is what MW has informed me regarding his new batches. My cueing sucks

Search on "brass quick release joint" and you'll see the picture. The item code is 120482466771 if it's easier for you to find that way. I havn't had any of the problems that Mr O mentions so maybe his mate was just unlucky. I've really no idea what joint I'd go for if I was buying another cue. Everyone has an opinion as to what is best. There's a new one out (called "1klik I think) which Dave Harold was trying out. I think that everyone is in search of excellance but maybe it doesn't matter to the average club player. Can you let me know what you decide and if Dave has any advice for you.My cueing sucks

I like an airlock, it feels a more solid well engineered joint but that is just personal preference. Many people have mastercraft stock joints and are happy.
I think what MrO was getting at with saying the joint is not perfect, is that it is not perfectly flush with the butt. I have felt expensive cues where you run your finger down the butt with your eyes closed and would not be able to tell where the joint is.
My own welsh pool however you can feel the joint when you run your finger down. I am not talking a huge wedge of copper here of course, just a tiny fraction that you can feel when the cue is screwed together.
There was of course some 200 pound plus price difference between my own cue and the more expensive cues I speak of, and these are some of the little details you are paying for with the higher end cues.
Other things like blackness of ebony, perfect alignment of splicings, quality of the woods (like pattern on snakewood etc.) are other things that account for the price inscrease. And then the extra of course you are paying for the name and resale value, finish etc.
Having said this I think all of these companies are capable of making a good cue. Just little details that you are paying more for.
I dont like the 1Klik for the main joint, I have never tried one, I know Mike and ADR both do not like them, but others do and some cue makers are using them (B&W I believe does). Personally I prefer the main joint to be of the non quick release type, as you will only screw it together once every time you play. I would consider the 1Klik to be perfect for extensions however.
And just one point, I would like to try Mikes joint, but I doubt I will get the oppertunity for a long while. Though he would say it's the best as he is slightly biasedsigpic A Truly Beakerific Long Pot Sir!

i admire the design and would love to like it, unfortunately there is no question in my mind that it does not work properly. when using the cue i could both hear and feel that the connection was not right because nothing was pulling the two faces together.
