I switchd fro ash to maple few years ago. I have no problem with the grain but was a little bored with ash. I felt the maple more solid and generate more power. I am quite happy with it and will not change again.

I have Trevor White ash cues and there is no way that maple can be smoother than these cues.

        I agree with this!

        My cue is 16.75oz. (Ash)

It vibrates nicely on the shot. You can somehow feel the shot better than with a stiff cue.
Therefore I have come to the conclusion that ash is better than maple!

        However each to their own.

I don't agree that ash is better than maple or the other way round, it's upto the user's choic really.

Agreed, my intention was not to argue that one was better than the other, merely to share my personal experience that I have a preference for maple (for the mentioned reasions) and the fact that I find ash distracting to me personally.

Other people love the feel and look of ash - each to their own:snooker:

Actually the only difference I see on the websites of the cue makers are that there is limited options available in maple as standard (must normally be specifically requested), or, where there is an option it costs more tan the equivalent ash shaft cue.

By the way, why do maple cost more than ash?
