  • Fibre ferrules - can they be cleaned?

Does anyone know if fibre ferrules, found on some of the older cues, can be cleaned in any way? If so, how?

Try a cuetip (I think they're called 'ear buds' in the UK) and alcohol, ensuring you don't get the alcohol on the tip or shaft of course. It might take 2-3 times.

And don't drink the alcohol either

Ahhh, the good old cotton bud! Thanks for that, Terry.

How about removing scratches etc? I guess even fine sandpaper would be a bit too harsh?

Toi shine them up I first use 600 grit emery or better (1,000 grit) to get rid of any scratches and then shine them up with very fine steel wool.

If you remove the tip and then grip the ferrule inside the steel wool and twist the cue it shines them up well

Are you talking about the black plastic soft ferrule, or the browish reddish looking ferrule?
Has anyone ever tried to use a bit of shellac?
