cue striped and waxed

Hi guys im thinking of taking my cue in to be striped of the factory surface finish which i believe to be a laquer finish and have it waxed finished because of a continuing problem i have of the shaft feeling ruff all the time, and no matter how much i rub it down with my towel i cant keep it smooth.
my local shop have suggested to have it striped and wax as this is what they do with all there cues.

My question is how long will this wax finish last until it needs another waxing and what are the the best maintance and care tips for a cue that has been waxed
