choosing a grain and clear arrows

hi to all again... may i know wat is the purpose to choose a cue with a nice clear arrows and straight grains? opps.. i just notice my cue some of the grains are not very nice, some of the lines of the grains looks a bit narrow, any problems with my ash shaft? thanks for your helps
