Hi All,
Just bought on a mid life crisis moment a 5ft Riley, slate bed, from Bishops Stortford - (is it Oak, may I ask? can do more pictures if needed). One owner since 1960s passed away last year sadly, David - awaiting surname - Anyway - it's not in bad condition overall but the pockets are deteriorating and leathers all but gone so good excuse to change the pockets at least.
Included as extra in the sale are the original Billiard ball set plus snooker balls - and thankfully the original adjustable brass feet, triangle, plus some tips in a billiard silk spot box!
A little bit pathetic maybe but I plan to place a small brass plate 5No or so, which just note the original owner name, whereabouts, age (approx) and year - a kind of log book but in keeping with the quality of the table, which leaves 3 blank for future owners to make their mark.
I tend to be a bull at a gate, and have already ordered the string pockets, some brass pocket plate (but I've ordered 'brassed' not 'brass' by mistake - thats the bargain hunter in me coming out before reading up) so they will be going back sadly.
Need to order the leathers, one site offering genuine cowhide leather in one sentence then a few lines below stating genuine artificial cow leather!, Will accept I guess faux leather due to cost and the cloth I have coming from the brother in law who has a full piece doing nothing in his garage (alongside two antique 8ft Rileys leaning against his wall (ffs) lol.
I will take this apart carefully, cushion by cushion and endeavour to replicate the original fitting.
Any advice will be appreciated in this quest - I have seen one refurb on here for a 5ft - so will absord that a little more later.
Thanks for reading, if you have - I have started playing again every Sunday and I am loving it - just wished I could see the end of the table, or even the middle - oh well (Thank god the refurb is only 5ft, but it weighs a lot lol).
Again soon -
Regards
