My Table has 6 shades, all with 60 watt lamps (bulbs) I tried the energy saving lamps but didn't think they showed the true colour of the balls, the brown and the red seemed very similar to me.
      Has anyone else experienced this?

You must hit the pink instead of the white then?

What lamps you could use depends on what sort
            of lampholders you have
there are some high output cluster lamps
availible that would give fat more light
            than a 200w lamp
again they're low energy but would give
            a really bright light
and would be cheaper than changing
            the light fittings
or if you're feeling really flush there is probably
an led equivalent really low energy
            no maintenance but pricy

In one of the clubs I use they have 11w and 14w in the shades. Bit dark around the black spot for my old eyes.
