10ft is no good for a 14ft width Garage , you would have to come down to a 4ft 4 inch cue on a cushion shot so yes 54 inch cue for 9ft or smaller for 10ft .

9ft is acceptable at 14ft as it is only 6 inch under .

most tables are slightly over by about 1.5 inch on width

for example most 12fts are 12ft long by 6ft - 1.5 inch wide of slate .

this can also be true of 9ft tbales . at 9ft by 4ft -7.5 inch .

    take 4ft 7.5 inch off 14ft width = 9ft 5.5 inch , = 4ft 6 inch cue with 3 inch draw back room .....very tight even for a small cue .

8ft would be the correct size if you did not wish to compromise on using a small cue for some straight cushion shots .
or 9ft if you think you could put up with the odd small cue shot .

According to my catalogue the minimum size room for a 9' table is 14'6" and for an 8' is 13'.

Those are minima. More is better.

I agree that it's inevitable that there will be clutter, even with 10 reds. I do also like pool, but the dream is snooker!

Try getting a century with 10 reds! Can be done, but it isn't easy.
