  • Table Affecting Spin.

Can anyone tell me what the main reason for this might be?

I’ve recently starting playing snooker again since starting a new job, with a snooker table available to play on during breaks. The table, I’ve recently discovered is over 40yrs old and been there since the 70’s. It’s in really good condition but extremely slow to play on compared to the local club tables.

My question is about playing screw shots. How come, that on this quaint old table, that receives zero TLC of any kind, I barely need to touch the cue ball anywhere below the centre and the dam things screws back the length of the table without even trying? The tables in two local clubs are much better, faster tables and well looked after, but I really have to earn a decent screw shot on them.

Will it be the table or maybe the balls making a difference?

Might be a light white ball...tends to make screw shots very easy.

Yeah, my first thought. Especially if the balls are 40 years old too?

Ha, I’m not sure how old the balls are but the blue is certainly a funny colour. I sometimes put it on the green spot by mistake.

So it’s the cue ball then. Thanks guys.

sounds like an old Super Crystallate set possibly.
where the blue is a dark blue and the pink is darker as well.
this type do react and play different to the Aramith phenolic balls.
          Up the TSF! :snooker:

First off. Give the table a good clean. Get some 1G's or 3V's. See if that helps. Then weigh the balls that are already there and compare them. May be laughable. The cue ball is more than likely to weigh around 126grams.
