  • Win a Freddo - every week

A NEW 12-week handicapped Open Series No 10 starts at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club, near Southampton, next Saturday (June 18) at 1pm.

The exciting news is that the club has agreed to continue its tradition of presenting a Freddo each week to the player who scores the first century.

All players are handicapped, but we operate a squashed handicap system that favours the better players.

Most matches are best-of-five. There is a Plate competition for those who lose their first match.

And there is free practice for all entrants while the tournament is in progress.

Entry is £7. Non-club members are charged an extra £1.

Each event usually lasts between four and five hours.

Ranking points are earned each week based on matches won. Roughly half of the entry fees are paid to the top six ranked players after the 12 weeks.

Among those who appeared in Series 9 were:

Shane Castle: 13-years-old, multi century breaker, former English under-14 champion, signed last week for On Q Promotions.

Jordan Winbourne: 15-years-old, multi century breaker, England junior international.

Alex Dunkley: former EASB Club Players champion, more than 50 competitive centuries to his name.

    Daniel Woods:
2011 Cuestars South of England Gold Tour rankings winner.

Tom Foley: University of Southampton captain, England Universities international.

The standard ranges from century breakers to players happy to make a 20.

Results and reports appear in the Southern Daily Echo every week and on sotonsnooker.com.

    Hope to see you there.
