  • What I've learned

    • The only golden rule for potting is straight cueing
    • Sometimes you have an eureka moment, where you think you've found the golden rule of potting or positioning, only to realize a couple of days later that it doesn't work
    • You learn something new everyday
    • Snooker is not as easy as it looks on TV
    • Someone will always be there to teach you the wrong technique
    • Snooker physics is more complicated than rocket science
    • It's embarassing to hit the lights with your cue
    • Some days are in-off days.
    • Potting a red off the black spot is easier than potting the black
    • No one can teach you how to pot
    • A coach is the best way to improve your game
    • Those who practise get better faster
    • The pause before your final delivery is important
    • Everyone has got their own method of potting that works for them. It can not be imposed upon others
    • Every table plays differently
    • You play better after a short break from snooker
    • Like musical instruments, you don't select your cue, youe cue selects you
    • TSF is the best online resource for snooker

You've learned a lot of things, I'd say. Been playing long?

its easier than they make it look in theory! 1/2pt
          • Someone will always be there to teach you the wrong technique (true)

          • It's embarassing to hit the lights with your cue (true)

          • Some days are in-off days. (false), some days you just don't play as well as others
          • Potting a red off the black spot is easier than potting the black (false), psychology would dictate a ball in an ususual position will unsettle you more than a ball inits correct position so the ball in its correct position should be easier!.

          • You play better after a short break from snooker (false), consistency and regular practice is vital, you just may feel you are playing better because you want to play more, if you mean have a break when you are stale then that's different!.
          • Like musical instruments, you don't select your cue, youe cue selects you (true)

Well I must say I do feel like a teacher marking an exam paper

I want to add that there is always someone who cannot play who likes to tell you how good he used to be.

and some players who are very good that can't explain how they do it....

Try and explain shot selection to someone that is pertinent to their game as opposed to your game! (impossible!!)

Try and teach someone how to pot a ball (impossible)

Try and teach someone confidence (impossible)

and that's without thinking about it!

Yiu can give a workman a hammer and show him how to drive a nail straight but invariably they will get it wrong unless they practice.... just ask my thumb if you don't believe me

                I'll give you that one

I can't but surely not impossible

You can't teach it but you can help to build it

Another thing i have to add. Trust your line of aim instead of meddling around with adjustments. If it doesn't work, refine it in practice.

                          This someone sounds like me

Oh I agree with most of the things nutscrewsandbolts has posted in that list. Apart form the in-off days, its not just "A" day for me anymore, more like everytime I play So frustrating!!
