I am building this home for my Ex Wife and youngest son which is the one that plays Snooker with me. Wait till I post photos of his billiard room. Going to be a 4-1/2x9 Pool Table and a 6x12 Snooker table with lost of room around all sides. Pouring concrete next week in the basement. Running conduit to both tables in the concrete so we can heat the snooker table and light them both up.
a crazy golf course in the back garden, build a house for the ex! whatever next, wheres your priorities? .. but seriously that sounds great man, an the snooker room is what dreams are made of so more power to you
when i think of you les i first think your a lad who likes a laugh with good banta then, this fishing expedition of a thread, then i think of your condition an what would be the long term of you playing with real expectations of progress. i remember you saying that the sholder is painful an that your elbow is waisting away an that you were looking into getting a replacment elbow, whats happening with that now? it must be impossible, everytime going down to the dungeon with this multi on going situation an trying to be optimistic about inproving

Wow that's kind of a mixed up message. First off my shoulder and elbow. The elbow is such a mess that not one specialist will even touch it as far as replacing it. Now my shoulder I am still waiting to see a specialist but in the meantime the doc said he wanted to try three injections and after one the pain is gone in my shoulder and elbow. I can play snooker all day and it does not bother me at all.
The house for my Ex and Son. She came to me wanting me to build it. Her money not mine but I am really making sure my Son has the ultimate in a Billiard Room. He is so excited.
As for keeping this thread going, I am not trying to set any records it's just about my Snooker game.

Cliff Thorburn called me last night after arriving back home from NYC where he was doing some exebithions to see what went wrong on the weekend. I told him how Floyd played right beside me and said I did not look like the same person all stressed and missing everything. I told him Floyd said he could not believe he had not got into the mental side of the game as he was so good at it. He laughed and begin to tell me about some of his pure pressure situations and his thoughts coming out into the arena. He says to me put your over coat on and tie up you boxing gloves and start to fight and never give up, GRIND it out to the bitter end. Now that is one explanation that I will never forget going forward. He wants me to video any matches I have so he can review them and he is planning on attending our next tournament to watch me first hand. I hope to have him down to play at my place soon and check out my sons new room when it's done. I might try and get Floyd down at the same time. A little Scoth Doubles would be fun. The four of us played in a four man scramble golf tournament last summer and Cliff had is in stitches all day.....LOL
As far as practicing he said to forget about all these pre planned routines, just set the balls up and break them open and go for every shot. Get used to looking for shape and hitting the ball. Just keep playing game after game. Here is a good photo of the four of us.

No Les, do it yourself otherwise all you'll get is 50 different answers and you'll be back to square one. Yes, throw the balls on the table and pot, but don't take the easy straight ones all the time otherwise you'll never learn the natural angles.
Pot the balls with no spin on the cue ball and see where the cue ball goes, do this so many times that the cue balls natural trajectory becomes engrained within your subconscious and you no longer have to think, you just know.

You have a disability that only you yourself can work around, no one else on this forum has any idea how your arm effects your game so therefore cannot help you.
You did it yourself with golf, now do it yourself with snooker, but remember to look at the object ball, or rather the contact point on the object ball before and on the strike, it's the key to potting balls because you hit what you're looking at.
Nothing else will come to you until you have learned to pot.

Thanks Vmax, funny I set up the cam last night and then took it down for the same reason. I would be bombarded with everyone's thoughts. Cliff is real keen on getting me to the next level and he knows all about my arm and he has seen me in action on the golf course. He knows I can get there.

Go for it Les, it's how we all learned to play back in the day when we first started out, very little snooker on tv so we knew nothing and learned through experience.
We all have different techniques, but all the best players look at the contact point on the object ball before taking the stance and again on the strike.

                  • Have you considered setting up a camera to film your next tournament match (so long as your opponent approves) and then film a recent practice session (preferrably one where you are playing well) and then a practice match? Perhaps between these three videos you can compare your approach with a coach?

I do agree that it is likely a mental thing, but mental game issues will manifest itself in a physical action. Comparing the two performances side by side may help determine exactly what you are doing differently.

Yes that is the plan. I might have my son coming tomorrow and if so I am going to tape a game. Then next tournament I hope to tape it and also playing practice games by myself. When I get all three together I we can sit down and go through them.

                        • Great! Sometimes the thing holding you back can be fairly simple. I noticed quite recently that when I'm playing poorly my tip is further away from the ball while in the address position. Completely explained why I had this feeling for having to reach to hit the ball. Fixing the problem is another thing entirely though

It's defiantly nothing to do with a mental thing that's just a uselss excuse to paper over people's cracks who are playing poor.
Lack of concentration, no where near enough table practice hours a dodgy arm and some poor advice is why les struggles.

what poor advice have you spotted? and if you had your way with les, what would you do with him?

                              • Les,

If I was you I would ignore this thread now. People like Leo will do you more harm than good. For him to say snooker has nothing to do with mental preparation proves he knows nothing about the game.
There has been some good advice on this thread but seems it has run its course.

You have some very good people around you like Cliff and Floyd so if I was you I would listen to them and just practice as much as you can.

                                All the best
