  • tips for placing the cue on the line of aim more consistently

i've been struggling with this for years ,when i'm playing on some shots i'm placing the cue slightly across the line to the left and other times to the right, does anybody have any tips for placing the cue exactly on the line of aim more consistently?

On an ironing/dining table, put an empty pet bottle of some soft drink without it's cap. You could cue inside and out this bottle, make sure not to touch the inside of the bottle while doing so. Repeat regularly for better results.

i'm not talking about cueing,i'm talking about the initial cue alignment before starting the cueing process

This can be done at home with a bit of insulating tape and a couple of blocks of chalk.

When I tried this I laid the cue along the line and put the chalk either side of the cue without the gap like Barry, as I got down if the cue thouched either chalk I knew it wasn't going down perfectly straight. maybe it's something that can be done gradually, start with the chalk a bit wider then move them in tighter and tighter until you can put you cue down with no real wriggle room.

A small mixer bottle on the kitchen worktop is a good way of cueing when away from a table. When on the table cue along the baulk line at an imaginary cue ball and try some power shots where you're pushing the cue through. Stay down on the shot and see if the cue veers off the baulk line. While staying down on the shot turn your head and look at your wrist. If it's sticking out you might be moving your wrist as you strike which will add unwanted side. Keep the wrist straight on delivery and it should keep the cue straighter. Another test is to put the cue ball on the brown spot and hit it down the table so it goes over all the spots, hits the bottom cushion and returns on the same path and hits the cue tip.

Make yourself a sightrite thingy with a piece of A4 paper, https://ibb.co/album/MMwG20

Set up a straight shot along the baulk line with object ball on the side cushion and cue ball on the green or yellow spot, place paper on the table with the fold 8 to 12 inches in front of the cue ball so that the line on the paper is bang on the baulk line and goes straight through to the centre of the cue ball and then stand behind the shot with your feet in the same position as they are in your stance ie: one in front of the other or parallel, in the place from where you see the line on the paper unbroken. This way there's less chance of moving your body off line as you step into the shot and get down because your body is already in the right position to sight the line according to your vision centre so no turning of head or body is required.
Step into the shot and get down, when down check that the tip end of the cue is bang on the line on the paper over and before the fold and that the butt of the cue is also bang on the baulk line, if not then you have moved off line, adjust your feet until all is lined up.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair
