  • Cue without ferrule as my playing cue

Hi ,I've been playing with a cue without a ferrule for 3years and really like it. I know that the ferrule is the to stop the wood splitting, but theres no sign of splitting and I think that if it was going to split it would have happened by now .do you think I should keep it as is or put a ferrule on it, but am worried that if I do it will change the way it plays, any thoughts would be appreciated Thanks John.

I imagine you are probably not a power shot player who trys to thunder the cue ball round the table when low on the blue etc, so if as you say it would have happened by now if it was going to, I'd leave it.

The trouble with ferruling the cue is that you won't know if it changes the feel until you've done it.... Then you can't go back without shortening the cue which will also possibly change the feel.

If you're happy with how it plays for you, don't fix what ain't broke.

My cue must be a round 70 years old and has never had a ferule!
