I was watching most of the matches and one word springs to mind.....dire, i have never seen such poor snooker from "professionals"

I saw a few frames and agree that some players such as Trump played
horrible and its unfortunate that several top players are out as it does
make the tournament less exciting for me.
I personally dont like the new format and dont think having several top
players out helps the actual tournaments draw in the fans.

Bear in mind that a lot of these "lower ranked players" are fresh on the tour. They started this or last season with zero ranking points, so their place on the rankings doesn't say anything about the quality of their game.

Just take Cao Yupeng for example: he only started gaining ranking points since June 2012 and he is already in the top 60. For the rest of this season (which only just started) he has no ranking points to defend, and I reckon he will be in, or close to the top 32 by the end of this season.

          Best regards,
          GR.
