Good question. It was Ricky Walden in 2013. He beat Michael Holt in the 1st round (10-1), Robert Milkins in the 2nd rond (13-11) and Michael White in the quarterfinals (13-6).
In 2012 Stephen Maguire and Matthew Stevens also reached the semifinals by beating three qualifiers each.

      • Well I can see no way back now for Kyren. Too bad really, I was looking forward to a real match between these two. But glad anyhow Selby is through. Now hoping Higgins can do the same. ..

        • Thanks! It's not as rare as I thought then.

Statsnerd that I am I also just looked back to find out that Neil Robertson in 2010 had to beat just one seeded player (Ali Carter in the semifinals) to win the title.

            • Well done to Kyren. Still in it. And showed maturity by not going for the maximum but making sure of the frame.

              • Couldn't watch last night as I'm working 2-10 shifts this week, but Hawkins really annoying, getting up for Ronnie and then taking Fu for granted
And that kick that Wilson got, new balls please World Snooker, let's take the bad contact lottery out of the game, the phenolic resin balls don't work, doesn't matter what you do to the table, they simply don't work.

                • Wonderful highest break from Kyren...very cool, calm and collected indeed!

I like his demeanor and style.

Definitely a future world champion in the making.

                      .
Wow, is that what he said he did ? That does surprise me.

I'd have thought these guys know, at this stage, there's no easy matches ( tip split not withstanding )

                      • Hopefully Mark finishes the match now, so Eurosport can switch over to Higgins - McManus.

I was thinking the same thing. Either a complete comeback from Kyren to 12 all, or else Mark kill it off now and we can switch over to Higgins vs McManus.

Thanks. But not in my country sadly. ;-)

                              • A visibly very relieved Selby. Well done mate. Sad to see Kyren go, a wonderful player to watch...he'll be back.
