  • 2019 China Open

The second biggest tournament of the season in terms of ranking points, prize money and frames to be played has already started today with the qualifiers. Those are already important cause the winner gets 5000 pounds (and obviously the chance to win much more). So it can be very valuable, if you still want to make the top 16 ahead of the World Championship or stay within the Top 64 at the end of the season. Or even if you want to get into the 32 ahead of the Crucible and get a (at least on paper) easier draw at the sport's biggest event.

    Prize money and ranking points
    Winner: £225,000
    Runner-up: £90,000
    Semi-final: £45,000
    Quarter-final: £27,000
    Last 16: £18,000
    Last 32: £11,000
    Last 64: £5,000

    Format
Round of 128: Best of 11
Round of 64: Best of 11
Round of 32: Best of 11
Round of 16: Best of 11
    Quarterfinals: Best of 11
    Semifinals: Best of 19
    Final: Best of 21

One of the most interesting qualifiers is already underway. Liang Wenbo and Zhao Xintong have shared the first six frames of their encounter with 3-3 currently.

Ashley Hugill makes a 140 break in the qualifiers against Kurt Maflin, will he get the highest break prize for his break if it stands seeing as some first round matches have been brought over to the main event stages in April. For Example if Mark Selby or Craigman Stead made a break higher then 140 in their match in China would they receive the prize money instead of Ashley Hugill.

Sometimes there's a prize for breaks in qualifying but it will not affect the prize for the main tournament.

It seems like Mark Williams match is held over as well.

After I praised him last week and his developments of the last months Noppon Saengkham took a blow and lost 4-6 to Jamie Clarke in the qualifiers.
Therefore Kishan Hirani and Alexander Ursenbacher got nice wins and qualified for Beijing.
