He usually does get a haircut for the worlds, to be fair. I didn't think he looked at all well today and his post-match interview confirms it - whether it's partly psychosomatic or whether he's just picked up a virus or something, I dunno, but he did look exhausted even for an insomniac.

Cahill acknowledged he didn't play that well and if Ron had played at all well he'd have lost, but that's the nature of the game. I liked Cahill when he beat Ding in the UK(don't remember Selby) and wondered where he'd gone. Hopefully he appears more next season.

      • As Ken mentioned Tony Knowles beating Steve Davis 10-1 in the first round when Davis was defending champion was a massive shock and I also recall the world N0 73 at the time Stefan Mazrocis beating Peter Ebdon 10-3 in the first round in 1997 when Ebdon was world N0 3. Mazrocis was having pints of larger as well during the match, which is not allowed now.

...which is quite a pity IMHO

          • Speaking of Ebdon.... I'd have him win the next 5 World Championships, if it keeps him out of the commentary box.

                  • Apart from the important one.....10-8!

OS's shot selections were very interesting . Not gung-ho, more blitzkrieg!

Usually I watch a mixture of BBC and Eurosport coverage, but this year I've watched almost every minute on BBC. All I can say is that it's really mind numbing. I like Hendry and McManus, but the rest of the bunch is awful. Dennis Taylor in particular is way past his expiry date. I've always liked Virgo, but even he is sounding old and tired. It's cliche after cliche, with really very little interesting said about the players or the game. Parrott seems more and more pompous and Doherty is annoying speaking whatever language it is that he speaks. Steve Davis is OK with Hazel, but terrible in the commentary booth. And Ebdon has hit the ground running as a boring and annoying addition to the group.
I can say that I like Hendry, McManus, and Foulds and Dominic Dale is Ok. The rest are much more enjoyable on mute.

Yes, of course he'll get the money. Won't go onto his earnings for his season as a pro next year in terms of his ranking though.

                        • I agree about the shot selections, I don't recall one safety shot he played! On the plus though it nearly got him through and he was only out done at the end due to knocking the red in off the blue...

He had to pay £700 to enter didn't he ?

I'm sure it is golf where as an amateur you aren't entitled to the prize money .
