  • Postcard from Sheffield –Day 4

    Well good afternoon from S1.

Not only did the weather perk up yesterday, but the excitement in the arena was maintained with three cracking sessions.

It was a day of many Marks – with Mark Allen, Mark Selby and Mark King in action in the afternoon and Mark Davis and Mark Williams in the evening – all being introduced by Mark Johnston-Allen with his bad throat and resultant squeaky voice which struggled to announce Joe Swail into the arena!

He has now been replaced, as scheduled, by Rob Walker who is back from his boxing duties.

Yes, yesterday was one of those Crucible days with much drama, and contrasing one-sidedness as well. Hendry came through against Allen who couldn't just quite finish the match off – losing two frames in unusual and different circumstances, one with Hendry having needed two snookers and the other with fouling a ball with his sleeve when 56 ahead. Davis and Bingham provided an absorbing late session which had looked like it would be over hours earlier when Davis fell 8–3 behind. In stark contrast, the other Davis could not put a foot right as he was humiliated by Williams's 8-0 lead, 8-1 overnight.

The sun continues to shine today, and the snooker continues to enthrall.

Hope you're enjoying the tournament, wherever and however you are watching.

    Wish you were here!

Does anyone know what happened to Richard Bear? Was he fired for being dreadful or dd he leave to pursuie other projects? Walker's alright, but doesn't seem to have the magic of MC Huighesy - maybe they could get Hughes to digitise his voice and use him for all announcements for the next 300 years?
