Just as they were about to start play Maguire realised he had left his chalk in his dressing room, the ref gave him permission to go get it but while he was doing so Murphy reminded the ref there is a rule about not having all your equipment needed to start the match and that there was a penalty of one frame being docked if you don't and Murphy demanded the first frame which the ref had to give him.

Maguire wasn't best pleased when he got back to the arena but still won 5-2, he didn't think it was very sporting. Same thing happened with David Gray against Maguire but Maguire didn't take the frame.

I'm surprised they don't have spare chalks in their cases that they leave under the table.

So Higgins vs Carter. I'm really looking forward to this one. Hoping John will come through in the end after a very tough and exciting close battle all the way to a 6-5 scoreline.

Allen played well last night and always seem to have a laugh and involve the crowd ie handshakes/high fives etc.

I did like his comment about not winning on the bbc for 13 months and needed some cash for his wedding, maybe evil Barry at work behind the scenes.

I wonder though if he has been enjoying his time off a bit too much, he looked a little rounder than normal and his waistcoast seem quite tight. Maybe it just not seeing on tv for a year but I think he had a good xmas.

Today first match should be good, Carter was on fire last week to win 3 matches in 3 hours and hardly missed a ball, different day different show but he might be able to beat Higgins today imo.

sorry to rehash the BBC 128-flat vt-peice, did anyone else pick up on John Parrott's comment "... and people like Hendry and Davis [Steve] who don't play anymore..." does he know something we don't
