  • Pot Black & Other TV Tournaments

    Hello,
    I have posted this request before but I thought I'd post it again.
    I'm trying to trace the match results for the following TV tournaments:
    Pot Black 1969-1992;
    Australian/World Masters 1974-1981;
    Canadian TV Tournament 1970-?;
    Park Drive TV Tournament (Yorkshire TV) 1973-4;
    Make A Break (Thames TV) 1973;
    Ladbrokes England v Rest of World (Thames TV) 1976-7;
    Pro-Celebrity (Yorkshire TV) 1976-1984 I think.
    + any not mentioned.
    Any help at all would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tony

      Hi Tony. I've been trying to track down the results of the original Pot Black series for a while now as well but with relatively little success. Obviously the results of each of the finals are quite easily available but other than that it's difficult. This is what I've come up with (some of them are only fixtures rather than results and most don't have the actual points scored):

      Pot Black 1973
      Eddie Charlton beat John Spencer

      Final
      Eddie Charlton beat Rex Williams 93-33

      1976
      3rd place play off
      Eddie Charlton v Rex Williams

      Final
      John Spencer beat Dennis Taylor 69-42

      Doug Mountjoy v John Spencer

      Group winner: Doug Mountjoy

      Group 3
      Ray Reardon v Perrie Mans

      Perrie Mans v Fred Davis

      Group winner: Perrie Mans

      Group 4
      Graham Miles v Dennis Taylor
      Dennis Taylor v Willie Thorne
      Willie Thorne v Graham Miles

      Group winner: Willie Thorne

      Semi Final
      Doug Mountjoy beat Cliff Thorburn
      Perrie Mans beat Willie Thorne

        This thread just reminded me of a one frame match involving Steve Davis that was televised about 2-3 days before the commencement of the 1985 World Championship. As a youngster I'd assumed that this actually was the World Title and that Davis was making an early exit. Anybody got any idea what this one frame match was? Davis lost it on the last few balls.

          It was most likely Jimmy White beating Davis in the Pot Black Quarter-final.

            Could have been but I don't think it was. I recall not recognising his opponent and even though I'd only been a snooker fan for about six months I'd become pretty fanatical about it and would certainly have recognised Jimmy. Furthermore, this was shown during the daytime and I don't think Pot Black was ever broadcast at that time. From memory it was used as a bit of filler for a sports programme like Sports World or something.
