  • Tournament Champion Balls - The same?

    Hi all

Are these 2 sets similar? IE. Made by the same company to same specs, only the top set (pictured) being an older version of the bottom set?

OR… are they completely different and the top set marketed to sound like the same thing as the bottom set?

    Thanks in advance 😎

    yes

    top is old box design
    bottom is new box design

Best to check is the weights of EACH ball.

Aramith TCs should range from 138-142g each ball
and the weight range across THE SET is 3g for standard and 1g for fancy "1G" set

Also would say, do not mix the balls between the sets.

If the balls are lighter -125g area then the balls are possibly Aramith Premier balls.

Seller came back to me. Total weight of all balls together not including the box is 3085 grams.
Reds and colours are around 140g
          White ball weighs 127g

Think that sounds promising. For £65 for the set?
Maybe the white has been replaced?

The cue ball has definitely been replaced incorrectly with a Premier.

For £65 and the balls are not all chipped etc, not too bad
When you get the set, weigh each ball yourself, so you know

IIRC, I believe you can get a replacement from Chesworth snooker (chesworthcues.com) and if you say what weight, they will get one for you.
Everyone, am I correct with this?

Great info. Thanks for the help!
have purchased them. They look to be in good condition.

Wait till you weigh each ball then you know the weight/range you want the cue ball to be

There was a Scots guy at Thurstons who would weigh individual balls for you. I know cos I gave him the wee weighing machine. I had a spare.
I just bought myself another new set of scales. They were only a fiver. I’ve also bought one of those 100g calibration things to check the accuracy of the scales. They say they’re accurate to 1/100th of a gram so I wanted to check. OCD I know.

Turned up today. Very pleased. In great condition and all weigh 139-141g with the exception of the white ball at 125g and has a small chip on it. Will replace the white for a 140g Aramith ball that I need to source from elsewhere 🤓

The Thurstons I mentioned have closed their shop and are now only trading on-line. Great shame. Thurstons were synonymous with snooker for many years.

Looks like Thurstons don't even make tables anymore either. They have just the one Burroughes & Watts listed on their website.
