On a different note and back on topic, How much does the throw of the que play in what makes a good cue, and how can it be measured, and does maple throw less than ash?
In another thread it was apparent that a lot of players have won the WC with maple cues. yet people seem to think ash is better, including me.
It beats me how you can spell CUE as in CUE then spell it que on the same post...(repeatedly on numerous threads)

Think you would have it sussed by now bud....

Hope you get on with your CUE better now you've had it altered bud...:snooker:

At least you can't have anymore cut off of the cue

Do you think that players prefer ash due to the visible chevrons compared to a maple cue . I'm like you , prefer ash . Would like to try a maple but , as you know , i don't have a flat on my cue and spin the shaft to line up the chevrons . Not sure if i could get used to a maple .

Good to finally meet you . You TW looks much better in the flesh . The pictures don't do it justice . Now , get down to the club and show it who's boss
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

Might have something to do with the couple of pints I had at the club and the bottle of wine i'm drinking. Hic

Thanks Neil, nice to meet you too, you got some lovely kids there.
I'll be playing tomorow so I'll let you know how I get on. What I would say is that I been playing with a grafite pro tip that dan gave me and find the tip that robert put on to soft. Might change it, what did you put on yours again.

Hay cally I suppose it's a case of mind your Peas and ques

So, how does your cue feel now then, you know, when your bending over a sideboard or summat in the house cueing it up?...

                  And i'm sure you have...

                  or is that just me...

but admittingly, i could tell what he was talking about with each tip i put on. and for me, that sorta showed me that i should pick different kinds of tips, on different cues, cause every cue feels different. but that feeling isnt always the same for everyone. just cause its great for me doesnt mean its great for them.
Point taken. It's impossible to describe any one or more ingredients that make the "indian a better arrow shooter" but I started the thread looking for experience and wisdom. I assume there HAS to be some concensus at least at a general level on what makes a cue worth great.

I completely agree that it takes talent from the cue maker and an eye for understanding timber. I have seen and played with a few first class Tom Gauthier cues (a Canadian cue maker who passed a few years back). The cue maker's role plays a crucial part in cue quality.

There are literally thousands of "great" cues out there.

Almost every cue seen on this forum is good enough to win the Worlds.
                                ...in the right hands....

The key is to pick a cue then keep playing with it.

Only then will you start to feel and understand how it performs certain shots.
It will then be your "great" cue, as any other cue, no matter how good looking, will feel different.

If you keep changing cue hoping for the one that feels magic, you will be sorely disappointed.

Almost any cue can be magic, when you start performing like a magician.
