...and this is how an entire thread is derailed by one obviously inflammatory comment.

I, for one, am interested in this topic. I have heard of players eventually just being able to 'see' the angle through experience and assume O'Sullivan has this finely tuned ability.

For the record, I think Antifanboy1 (the online Ronnie 'hater') is hilarious. I love the dripping-with-sarcasm titles and descriptions of his uploaded videos, ie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ytRFcoe7ZM

Also note the disgruntled Ronnie supporters who, having been silenced by the disabling of comments, can only 'dislike' the videos in a feeble act of condemnation.

[Not trying to bump up post numbers, but I can't find the edit function, if there is one!]

Ronnie has played for thousands and thousands of hours since he was very young. He knows all the potting angles. I would say that most good amateurs and above do. The only problem is hitting that angle and thats where technique comes in. Pros are better because they can consistantly strike the object ball where they are aiming. The potting angle is the easy part when you have the experience.

Besides which, the original poster has failed miserably in assessing Ronnie as not aiming. It is true Ronnie (and every other good player in the world) do not AIM while they are down on the shot because they have already (properly) done their aiming while walking into the shot or standing behind it and then it's only a matter of dropping the head straight down on the line of aim.

That is exactly what Ronnie does...he aims while standing up behind the shot from where you get the best perspective and then drops straight down although he sometimes does this very quickly and even might do his aiming while he is walking into the shot (not recommended for a lesser player).

Only to the uninitiated does it appear that Ronnie does not aim at all.

                    replies much appreciated
Ronnie doesn't need to check his angles, generally. He is the complete snooker player when he is on song. He sees the shot before he gets into the address position. He has noted the angle, decided what ball he is going to be on next, decided the amount of power he needs and decided which spin, if any, he needs all before he gets down on the shot. This is just the mark of a great player. I don't believe Ronnie has any arrogance at all in his game, he just makes it look so easy, that people think he is arrogant. Its like crossing the road to you and me. We know what is required, and we just do it. The only thing Ronnie does that is wrong, is beat himself up, when he feels he isn't at the top of his game, and negativity in snooker is a major disaster area.

Nice one ferret. Its always nice to discuss and have disagreements that is what a forum is for, but we can certainly do without idiots like him. It just goes right off the line of the original thread.

In fact, Ronnie (as well as all other players) does look at the angles. Sometimes he takes up towards 2 Minutes for a shot.

Yes of course there are times when pro's take time to check out the next shot, but generally, as said in the first post, Ronnie comes to the table and gets straight down having already checked out the shot.

Personally I don't think Ronnie assesses the angle at all, he simply sees the point on the object ball that the cue ball needs to hit and takes his stance accordingly, same as I do, and many others do.
Are there really people who work out whether a shot is a 1/4 ball or a 1/2 ball or a 3/4 ball angle before getting down on the shot. I can't see it as most shots are somewhere in between these alledged standards and to try to work out the correct angle would take take someone with a mind like Kim Peake.

I've seen Ronnie look at the angle loads of times. It all depends on the shot he's playing.
