  • Freeball foul question

    This happened last week in a League Match that my mate played in :

    A free ball was given and the player took the Black as a free ball , which he potted . He then potted a Red next . Obviously a foul shot which the ref rightly called .

    But they were unsure about the penalty points .

    I assume that as no ball was nominated as a colour the foul would be 7 points .

    Can anyone confirm if this is correct ?

    Thanks

    Neil
    Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

    Yes - not specifically for the reason you stated but because there is actually a Rule for it:

    Playing at a two reds (or free ball followed by a red) in successive strokes: 7 points

        Yes, that is now in Section 3 Rule 10(d) of the 2011 rule book.

        (d) seven points if the striker:
        (i) uses a ball off the table for any purpose;
        (ii) uses any object to measure gaps or distance;
        (iii) plays at Reds, or a free ball followed by a Red, in successive strokes;
        (iv) uses any ball other than White as the cue-ball for any stroke after the frame has started;
        (v) fails to declare which ball he is on when snookered or when requested to do so by the referee; or
        (vi) after potting a Red (or free ball nominated as a Red), commits a foul before a colour has been nominated.
