A player is 7 points ahead ,on the colours, and down to the black which is perched very close to a centre pocket and requiries an extremely fine cut to pot it and clinch the frame. He goes for it and misses entirely (ie no contact with the black ball) Is this now a respotted black (as the scores are now level ) or does the other player get to attempt the ,now easy, black still perched over the centre pocket and thus have the chance of "stealing" the frame?

As jrc750 says, it is now a re-spotted black, so the black is now spotted and the next player plays from the 'D'. The frame ends with the next pot or foul.
