  • Whitewash sessions at the Crucible?

    Hi forum,

I hope someone can help with this difficult question or will be able to direct me to a place where I can find out.

How many whitewash sessions has there been during the WC in the Crucible era (not counting qualification sessions)?

    Best regards,
    Peter

Dave Hendon asked Joe Johnson this earlier - session not matches

he said it was over 50 (51 or 56 cant remember as Joe's guess was 6 )

they probably got this figure from the Crucible Almanac

"The Statman" here on TSF is the author

The exact number Phil Yates mentioned was 52, but I suspect that includes sessions where only a couple of frames were played, which makes it a pretty misleading statistic, in my opinion.

I have the 2012 edition, and there had been 51 examples of sessional whitewashes of at least 6 frames up to that point (page 142). Three of these had been all 9 frames in the session and 19 examples of 8 frames. Someone can work out the ones from the 2013 tournaments onwards.

There has only been one since, Doherty was trailing Bingham 5-4 in their 1st round match in 2014, before winning all six frames in the second session to win 10-5.
