I'll try askign in a less long winded way. How near, or farr off, the centre of the cueball do you need to be to induce some degree of side?

Centre of the cue ball
Ok, so I will try and explain my query as best as I can. The centre of the cue ball, the true centre is a very tiny spot in the middle. The middle being the intersection of a North South East West access. Assuming the table is level, cloth clean, and straight cueing etc, then to make the cue ball run straight, the same centre point of the cue tip needs to strike the centre of the cue ball. SO my question is, how far off centre could you hit the cue ball before it doesn't run straight. are we talking tenths of a millitre, or 1mm or more?
