  • Reanne set to hit big five 0

IF Reanne Evans wins her first match at the South Coast Classic in Eastbourne this weekend, she will have chalked up a staggering 50 straight singles victories on the World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association (WLBSA) circuit.

The 24-year-old five-time WLBSA world champion will be in action at the Q-Ball Snooker Club on Saturday (February 6). The tournament kicks off at 10am.

Evans, who is also chasing a 21st WLBSA title, said: “It’s been a while since the last event and I’m looking forward to trying to maintain my unbeaten run.”

In last year’s South Coast Classic final, Evans beat Maria Catalano - her good friend from Dudley - 3-0. Catalano is the 27-year-old cousin of Ronnie O’Sullivan.

Among those hoping to end Evans’ run are Emma Bonney, the world number three from Portsmouth, and Katie Henrick, the world number four from Bickley, Kent.

Ten-year-old Jasmine Bolsover, based at Woking Snooker Centre, will make her WLBSA debut in the South Coast Classic.

Jasmine is a product of the association’s scholarship scheme which offers free membership and free tournament entry to girls aged under 16.

She has already impressed with a 2-1 victory over Eastbourne’s Martina Lumsden (the world number nine) on the Ladies Tour run by the English Association of Snooker & Billiards.

A high-quality 23-strong field also includes eight-time German national champion Natascha Niermann and Derby’s 13-year-old England international Hannah Jones.

The South Coast Classic is the fourth of six ranking events this season. The draw takes place at 9.45am. Colin Selby is the Tournament Director.
