  • Wee Video of Me Hitting Some Balls

Okay, so if Terry can do interviews for newspapers, I can't hide from doing a video, so I did a wee one on the phone today for my coaching friends on TSF. I think the camera made me a bit nervous and fidgety, I feel for the pros! More waggles than a duck.

I think there is still too much head and body movement, but I've cut this right down, so this video shows some progress on how I was 3 months ago; a pool player. I'm much more relaxed and fluent off camera.

    Anyway coaches, fire away.

And no, there is no effin eye-patch before some WUM kicks off. Cueing under my dominant R eye. V grip, central, heel on chamfer at the end of the stroke. Little finger tip just touching the underside of the cue, pretty open grip. Straight bridge arm 12-13 inches to the cue ball from tip. Foot in line, other peg pointing out.

    * Excuse the lack of a shave, and the Jagermeister painting t-shirt circa 2000. lol

    ** Photos attached for Terry.

Harder than you think is a beautiful thing.

I'm no coach, but the cue butt looks jacked up pretty high to me. Meaning unwanted side is going to have a swerve effect on the cue ball. Something ive had issue with. Also, whats the rush?!

Yep, I need to get down more too, to see the true shot line, you're right. Rush, I'm going slowly! I think it was because my phone was running low on power, so I had to get a wriggle on. Thanks for the comments.

More people here should do this, including me.
Nice to see the glove is working.

I'm really not a coach of any kind, you all know I'm new here, I won't comment on anything, but I do think this is a great way to learn!
        Long days and pleasant nights.

Yep, I need to get down more, to see the true shot line, you're right. I think the issue I have with getting lower, as I may have described in a post on TSF, is foot in line. It's a lot harder on the back of my R knee (which has had multiple operations because of martial arts) compared to the stance I used to use for playing pool. It begins to ache after 10 minutes, and intuitely, I'm bending my spine to avoid getting lower, and thus increase the pressure on my knees. I wonder if I should take two Ibuprofen before playing? When I get down to the rail height, I play better shots, better contact and less unintentional side as you point out. I need to find a solution and that may mean spreading my feet wider, ala Neil Robertson (I think someone may have recommended I do this on TSF).

Rush? I'm going slowly! I think it was because my phone was running low on power, so I had to get a wriggle on. Thanks for the constructive comment; that's useful.

The way you get down on the shot and your cue action looks funny, almost like you're trying to get the shot over with as fast as possible. The last red you literally fell onto the table and slid to the right onto the shot.

Yeah, I really don't like cameras and video of me, ghastly. I didn't feel at all comfortable. The way I get down is to ensure that I have foot in line, a kind of practising aid which I hope to drop as foot in line becomes ever more natural. Probably guilty of trying too hard.

Holy Cwap!!! FFS slow it down a bit. Take maybe another couple of seconds when standing behind the shot, slowly drop the head straight down, feather slower and for goodness sakes, do your final backswing slow and deliberate.

Also, although a straight bridge arm is nice to have I think you might get a strain after a while playing like that and it MAY be better for you to bend that bridge arm just slightly to allow that forearm to take more weight. You should have 10% of your weight on the forearm and bridge hand.

The is a bit of head movement during the delivery and you'll have to work to eliminate that entirely. Also do you hit the balls that hard all the time? There's no need to unless you are trying a deep screw rather than the stop shots you were doing.

Otherwise the cueing technique looks pretty good, although the next time you take a video I'd recommend you shave and then go to a make-up parlour so you look good on the video

In summary, slow down a bit on getting down, feathers should be slower and more deliberate and the backswing should also be a little slower and more deliberate. You're driving through to the chest fine, but most players will on power shots like this. On your next video give us a shot from straight on over the pocket on a long blue (or the red beside the blue) and also a bit of video from the side showing the grip hand up to the top of the elbow. Really need that to do a more complete analysis.

Ok dude, I'll do some more video next time I get a chance. Everything you say is spot on in my mind. Lots to learn. At least I've got a baseline video now; should have been done months ago - doh! I think because I'm a bit nervous in the video, I've gone all slam dunk; a few balls left the table. I just wanted to get it over with really. I usually feel a longer back pause than in the video, and I feather more, and slower.

We don't shave a lot down here, men are men, and snooker tables are scared.

I think it is the secret club that PP is keeping to himself
