This would have been my answer, but surely he made a break higher than 100 in the year he made the quarter finals.

Since he is the only player to ever make a century in his debut frame at the crucible, I assume this is the answer required?

If so, this question is incorrect, as he made a 105 in 1998.....

Murdo McLeod v Rex Williams played session no's 2 and 6
Stephen Hendry v Willie Thorne played session no's 5 and 7

So, I think that works out that McLeod would have become the first Scot to win a match at the Crucible during the first Monday morning session, while Hendry became the second that same afternoon!

Not quite, session 6 would have been the Sunday evening and session 7 the Monday morning. But the principle is the same.
