    AHHH!!!, of course!!

Why didn't I think of it? It was indeed Walter Lindrum. In the late 20's he played a series of matches against Willie Smith, who was regarded by the public as the unofficial British number 1. In one match the prize was a silver tea service. Lindrum's wife was tragically knocked down by a bus and was in a very serious condition in hospital. She asked him to win the tea service for her. It was at that point that he made a break of 2,002. He returned to the dressing room to be informed that his wife had suffered a relapse and that there was no hope of her pulling through. Made as it was, under such severe emotional pressure, Walter regarded that break as his finest.

Failing that I will say Dominic Dale (just in case his real name is Christopher!)

Which Christopher is celebrating his birthday this week? (This is a snooker question before someone says a family member called Christopher has a birthday tomorrow!)

Congratulations Cyril and hegeland. It was indeed Joe Davis talking about the possibility of a 155 being made. Like climbing Mount Everest and then being expected to climb the flagpole! I reckon ½ point each for that.

Congratulations Cyril. It was indeed a quote from Joe Davis, but I want to know precisely what it was he was talking about.
