Is there really a Norman or was that just chosen to end the chain?

    ROUND FORTY

What is the longest thread of names possible, where one player's surname begins with the last letter of the previous name, for example:

    Macleod, Davis, Swail, Lee, etc.

You may not use the same end/start letter more than once (but the very first first letter and the very last last letter do not count – only letters used to link).

Or, what about if the name is written in full? e.g.

John Parrott, Terry Griffiths, Stuart Bingham, Murdo Macleod, etc.

The person with the most, in either method, by 5:03 this evening will win the point. If a tie, the earlier/earliest posted valid answer will win.

YOU MUST INCLUDE THE NAMES IN YOUR ANSWER.

Congratulations robert602. Since I only asked for the number, and did not ask for you to qualify your answer, I have to give you the point for saying 9.

Although you missed Mark Johnston-Allen, you included Murdo Macleod, whose name is, surprisingly, spelt with a small "l".

So here is the scoreboard after Round 39:

    Pos. . . . . . . . Points . . . . . . Name
    ..1 . . . . . . . . . . 8 . . . . . . . . snookersfun
    ..2 . . . . . . . . . . 7 . . . . . . . . Mitsuko
    ..3 . . . . . . . . . . 6 . . . . . . . . Cessy143
    ..4 . . . . . . . . . . 4 . . . . . . . . Robert602
    ..5 . . . . . . . . . . 4 . . . . . . . . Alex0Paul
    ..6 . . . . . . . . . . 3 . . . . . . . . Lindea
    ..7 . . . . . . . . . . 2 . . . . . . . . Davis greatest
    ..8 . . . . . . . . . . 1 . . . . . . . . berolina
    ..9 . . . . . . . . . . 1 . . . . . . . . April madness
    10 . . . . . . . . . . 1 . . . . . . . . PaulTheSoave
    11 . . . . . . . . . . 1 . . . . . . . . Hegeland
    11 . . . . . . . . . . 1 . . . . . . . . The Statman

(A reminder that there are no tied scores – when your score increases you go to the top of your new total.)

I thought about MJA as soon as I posted, just couldn't correct myself until someone replied, bah.

In the hope that Statman's in a pedantic mood, I'll say 11 and add Mark J Williams to the list .

    ROUND THIRTY-NINE

I am typing a list of the 163 players who have played at the Crucible. Already in place is the first letter of their first and surnames, so the list looks like this:

    RA
    JB
    MB
    SB
    etc. down to
    RW
    JW
    JW

I am now going to insert the full names, but unfortunately my keyboard is broken. The SHIFT key does not work.

How many names will I not be able to complete correctly, because they require another capital letter?
