    • Sorry to side track a bit. Why is hard tip not advisable on stiff shaft?

      • My favorite 3 tips.

        1. ADR M
        2. Talisman S
        3. Kamui Original M

Apart from these i have also used a brand called Hercules on some of my ordinary cues/club cues and found that they are easy to trim and shape and fare far better than the nightmarish Elks.

            • I have added pro granite tip from gbl to my list( which I can't remember what it was ) I have knocked the living day lights out of one and it's kept its shape very well indeed and hasn't flattened down at all.
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

Ermm.. I'm using oversize shapener to trim the side near to ferrule. Then use strap sand paper (just enough height for the side of the tip) grade 300 to 600 to 1000 to 2000. Then use steel wool 00000 to touch up the ferrule and side of the tip. Applied shoe wax to the side of the tip and rub against with leather to burnish it till shine.
Usually took me 1hr to replace a tip but I just enjoy along the process

An hour to replace a tip holy crap. I take a tip out the clamp burnish the back of the tip to ensure it sticks. Put white tape the top of cue so to avoid marks/damage or glue touch the ferrule or wood then apply super glue gel to tip - put tip on using clamp leave for five - ten mins or so. Take clamp off turn cue upside down then use stanley knife or special blade thingy to trim oversized tip then shape up and dome tip to required shaped - use oversized pencil sharpener to take edges flush to ferrule if you like it like this then I take out my lighter waft it around the edge of the tip to harden u tip and burn any crumbly bits. To finish off Iuse a bit of spit and some caulk dust rub with thumb round the edge of tip to burnish an clean /polish ferrule if required then I remove white tape .. go n play

                            The end

30 mins tops start to finish depending on how long you leave tip to dry but I have done it a few times in 10 - 15.

                            • Hahaha, I made a right hash of mine 3 week ago. Bloody super glue on the wood and ferrule and even stuck my index finger to the cue too. Had to run my Stanley knife along the wood to the brass ferrule of my JP to lightly shave the glue off and then spent all morning biting and chewing off the glue off my fingers. The stuff is a nightmare if you rush and mess tipping up...

                              • I can do a pressed tip in under 5 minutes, don't use a clamp and don't even wait for the glue to dry. But I do like to take my time with a laminated tip, its the doming I find takes the longest, but I have to work quick before the wife tells me off for using her chopping board!
