I thought Hendry played terrifically a few years ago in the World Championship and thought he had a chance that year, but unfortunately he came up against Ronnie in the semi playing his 'A' game and got absolutely crucified. I believed then; that Ronnie had seen Hendry play excellently in the quarters and figured he'd have to play very well to win, and consequently was mentally prepared to play exceptionally well.

Unfortunately for Stephen his strength, when he was at the top of his game, was long potting and single visit break building, usually combining the two to devastating effect. As you get older, however, your long potting deteriorates and your concentration wanes. His tactical matchplay never matched Davis' and though I wouldn't rule him out should he get a great draw I sadly don't think he'll win any tournament again but has even less chance in the World.
I often use large words I don't really understand in an attempt to appear more photosynthesis.

Now me personally sees that he still has a great cue action ( one of the best, behind the nuggets) and can still play great snooker ....he is only 40.
I dont know why,but I think he will soon just relax, and play like he is capable of.....I fancy him to win a tournament soonish
50/1 seems like a massive price!
        :snooker:
he pulls across most shots but when he plays with power its exaggerated and he misses by a massive way.

theres a technical fault in his game which he has had for 10+ years.

He has passed the line.. No matter how great you are, loss of concentration will catch you someday by the time you get older. The question is how long can you push it to a future date.

As Monique stated, Hendry has got into a drought in the majors, and it is unlikely that he'll ever win one again. Nearly same for Williams, these two were probably, when they brought their best, most dominant players of their generation, with Williams bringing it occasionally, whereas Hendry was more consistent.

But I think neither Williams nor Hendry will give up the fight. Who knows, this is a game, and for one last great shot, they might be back soon.

What if Steve Davis came back from the qualifiers to win at the Crucible

I will miss Steve on the table, if he retires ever of course

He could win a tournament again with the right draw but it's unlikely in my view.

The last few years he seems to have struggled to maintain his consistency from match to match, but this season it has been from frame to frame I think.

I dont mean to be harsh but come on, have a look at his game, he needs a coach to sort a few things out in his own game IMHO no matter thinking he can sort the game of 1 the best players ever to pick a cue up.

He deffo aint got the qualities i would want in a coach that's a dead cert.

Ps... Answer to op, Yes hendry has gone past his sell by date...

hendry is my favourite player bar none and his achievements in the game are 2nd to none in my opinion. However my feeling is that Hendry is too inconsistent these days, one minute he looks back to his best , the next he misses a pot i could get. My biggest fear is that he can only really seem to get himself up for the biggest of events, but with the calibre of players at these events , he hasn't got the game to win them any more, i hope i am wrong but therefore i believe he will struggle to win on the big time again

he has not looked back to his best for a very long time but what he has is a built in determination of winning but like you say he is to inconsistent even with that so winning tournaments when your inconsistent from frame to frame never mind match to match is impossible.

I know, I don't know what it is with coaches but they are all talk.

Why don't you put your methods into practice and become a top class player yourself. Anyone ever wondered why none of these so called top coaches actually did or do anything in the professional game? Its like the old saying, "those that can do, those that can't teach"! Never has that saying been so accurate.

so cally who would you want to coach you?

since your the expert, just because a coach plays 1 way, does that mean he coaches his students that way, your obviously clueless and judging a video of me hitting balls a guy took, i advise all my students to not play the way i do, something you obviously know since you know me so well, for you to start making comments, just because i play 1 way does that mean i coach that way, get your facts straight before you start sitting behind your keyboard being an expert.

maybe you will improve if you never judged since your so good.
