He's describing the event that took place at the Grand Prix 2004. This was the past, not the present. During that tournament, Maguire had forgotten to bring Chalk. He left the arena and while he was gone, Murphy had talked to the referee - apparently, if you don't turn up on time with the requisite equipment, you can be disciplined. In this case, Maguire was docked a frame.

@ Alex - perhaps its due to the volatile situation in the top 16, with top names playing poorly, and a few getting close to prov. 1 ?

i dont see there being that big a fuss about it. i just see it as a talking point which seems to be changing a little more fequently than it sometimes does.

Is it just me or has there never been this much fuss over a provisional number 1? I mean everytime Murphy is about to play they without fail mention he is the new provisional number 1. It is really annoying me now as provisional number 1 means absolutly nothing.

I really hope Murphy doesn't win the tournament, I might even consider supporting O'Sullivan if he can prevent him (not so sure about this though)

Never seen anyone else do it!
I've never been O'Sullivan's biggest fan but he is playing very well at the moment and he certainly seems incredibly relaxed which must be in his favour.
I'd really like to see Stephen Maguire winning the trophy though.

Why do you make fun with Shaun Murphy?
What is wrong with you people?
    Go Jamie! Eliminate the Rocket-Shmocket!

He, as is now typical with Murphy, threw his chalk into the crowd in Belfast at the end of his match (which he lost to Maguire) and the poor guy that very unwillingly caught it gave him a dirty look. It was very funny and several people started laughing.

I am not Murphy bashing just stating an observation.
(My friend did however mention that had he thrown it to her she would've thrown it back at him)

I thought the semis today start 2pm as worldsnooker.com published, but just discovered they started earlier, both matches in 2nd frame (doh). the only good thing I'm not watching anyway, since I'm at work

Anyway i m happy to see Mark getting so far in a tournament ..it didnt happen since the 2006 Worlds when he played the QF ag. Ronnie. Our commentators said he went 10 places up in the rankings after this QF, he's 33 provisional hope he will reach a better place till the end of the season.
Well done to Mags... my fav highlander in the circuit..hope he'll win the semi as well. Mon Magsy!

Good to see Ding playing the way he got us used to , tis the best run he had this season...guess "the Dragon" is back!

..and of course ...MON the Rocket!!!!!!!!!
Yes I'm very happy to see Williams again in form . I am sure hi will show his good play in the next tournament .
Now when my fav.Hendo is out from the UK competition I want Selby get the trophy but think best chance is for O'Sullivan or Maguire .

"butterflies in the stomach " ? Hmm i cant imagine Higgins havin those either ..
As for his opponents i doubt ROS underestimates them ..imo the only person he's underestimating is himself .....lacks confidence in his game and his abilities to win.
I agree tho that Day improved a lot the past 2 years but that doesnt make him a "better player" than Ronnie , plus... there are no results to stand for that. Besides he's not the only one who improved lately .., Selby could be also mentioned and might be others as well...

Better means the way the players approach to the game. A better stand, better cueing, more focused. The problem with Ronnie is that he plays like in a local snooker club, there are no butterflies in his stomach i guess. He underestimates his opponents and he is lacking in sportsmanship.
As for Ryan Day, I bet he'll win a ranking tournament in a very near future. In my eyes he is the most improved player in the last two years .

Define "better players" .. I'd say there are many equally good players as Ronnie. Ryan Day not being one of them at the moment.

I would just like to see Ronnie win a ranker since he hasn't won one for ages.
