yeah it is a shame that Dean - the tournament is not finished still some great snooker left to be played - the way some people talk you'd think it was over already

unfortunately there are people that will only watch snooker when ROS is there, much to their detriment.
As the commentators say there are "Ronnie-fans and only Ronnie-fans and not snooker-fans", every time ROS is on, there are people in the audience ONLY to see ROS. I saw it myself at the Welsh last year, for each of his matches (not the final :wink as soon as ROS match was over, 1/3+ of the live audience left, even though there was many matches already in playing and scheduled to be played.

And I am sure there are those that will only watch the TV when ROS is on and no one else.

I watch snooker because it is such a great game and never just for any one player in particular. Nevermind taking up the position you did...it's sad and you will always be a loser, that is losing out on a great game.
For one don't call me a worshipper old chestnut I was only going by what many people think and how venues and TV audiences go mad when he's playing. ROS has done so much for snooker and it's laughable at those who state otherwise, and this is probably accepted by other players also. It's the same when a certain person joins a TV show or people will turn up to a certain football game because a particular player is playing its no different. I Was only stating from my first post that snooker can somewhat go into sour mood when ROS is not playing.

About 15 years ago I would agree but he appears to be a much better person now.
I agree. He is a much more complete human being atm, seems very much at ease with himself and his surroundings. Good to see.

Well I agree it does get annoying that the commentators keep going Ronnie this Ronnie that when there are so many great great players around but he is a genius and its not his fault we need better commentators with something new to say - Robertson did a number on him today but tomorrow is another day - I think the sadness is that the Australians did not get to watch this on live TV down under. Robertson has improved his all around game and plays with no fear any other country would get well behind a player of his quality.

Ronnie did not look settled from the start - I noticed him asking for sandpaper to do his tip before he started - his mind and preparation not exactly where it should have been from the off but I think but it is our defeats that make us stronger and over the longer format in the worlds it would be interesting to see if Robertson or anyone else could keep up that kind of standard he produces regularly - certainly not for every match but he is human after all.

Robertson won today but I don't think that's the last we will see of the rocket - rivalries make snooker popular - these two need to meet in a final over a distance to sort it out once and for all - shame it does not happen enough because I think Robertson is Ronnie's main rival for best player currently because of his all around game and temperament - I would much rather see Trump and Robertson or Williams Allen do battle with Ronnie than anyone else because of the attacking flair.

In closing snooker today is miles better in terms of quality right down the order - I made an 80 odd in the club this week - no one batted an eyelid not even me - make a ton break in the 70's you'd be in the local press. Today the standard at snooker is through the roof at every level.
It is all good for the ratings - I think easy to be disparaging about Ronnie because of his past antics but to his credit he has worked on that side of things and his record speaks for itself - he is not the best in the world off today's performance but overall he is still the one to beat. Father time is waiting and the vultures are gathering however?

Some strange things being said in this thread. Ronnie's good for the game, he gets people talking about the game, you can tell that by the fact that this thread grows by at least ten pages every time he plays. Bad day at the office, it happens, and Robertson's been playing some great snooker this week. It's a bit daft to say this is the end because he lost one match.

Yes it's refreshing to see someone else taking the limelight. I do feel they could do more to promote the other players.

I remember seeing a snooker history dvd. Hendry won WC 1999 right after loosing 9-0 in the first round of the UK
    (I think to Campbell).....
What the hell people in this forum are talking about ? decline ? we shall see about that...
If Neil is unstoppable , why didn't he win the UK ? the Champion of champions ?
hell . He didn't even win this one yet....
I find Ronnie to be more consistent these years than before...
As Mark Williams said after beating Ronnie 6-5 in China. He is still the best in the world and
    not by a small margin.....
